What is vitamin D3?
The role of vitamin D in the body allows the increased absorption of calcium and phosphorus for healthy teeth and bones and is crucial in supporting the immune system. Vitamin D can be absorbed naturally from sunlight, however, in months where light intensity is significantly reduced, vitamin supplementation is recommended to avoid vitamin D deficiency.
The minimum recommended daily intake of vitamin D is 600 IU (International Units), however, research indicates that a daily intake of 800 - 1000 IU is optimal and may warrant additional health benefits; furthermore, for those that are older than 50 an intake of 800 - 1000 IU is recommended.
