What is Vydura (Rimegepant)?

Vydura is a medication for migraines designed to help individuals who suffer from migraines, whether with or without aura.

Unlike traditional treatments, Vydura serves a dual purpose – it can be used to both treat an ongoing migraine episode and as a migraine prevention medication for those who experience frequent migraines.

This innovative migraine solution contains rimegepant as its active ingredient, a member of the gepant class of medication for migraines. Rimegepant works by targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a substance in the body associated with migraine episodes.

Elevated CGRP levels are often found in migraine sufferers. By binding to the CGRP receptor, rimegepant reduces its activity, resulting in rapid relief from active migraine symptoms and a decrease in the frequency of future migraine attacks when used as a migraine prevention medication.

One notable feature of Vydura is its convenient oral wafer form, known as oral lyophilisate, which dissolves quickly under or on the tongue.

Vydura's effectiveness in both treating and preventing migraines positions it as a versatile solution for adults seeking relief from migraine symptoms.

How does Vydura (Rimegepant) Work?

Vydura tackles migraines by blocking CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide), a key chemical involved in migraine onset and duration.

Its active ingredient, rimegepant, inhibits CGRP, reducing inflammation and preventing blood vessel expansion in the brain. This dual-action approach makes Vydura effective both as an acute treatment for ongoing migraines and as a migraine prevention medication for those prone to frequent attacks.

Unlike some other medication for migraines, Vydura doesn't constrict blood vessels, making it a safer option for individuals with heart-related concerns.

Vydura offers a targeted solution to the complex nature of migraines, providing relief and reducing the frequency of episodes by addressing the root causes of migraine symptoms.

How effective is Vydura (Rimegepant)?

Vydura (Rimegepant) has proven to be highly effective in treating migraines and preventing frequent occurrences. Clinical trials have demonstrated its effectiveness:

Medication for Migraine Attacks: In a study, 59% of individuals experienced pain relief within two hours of taking rimegepant, with 21% becoming completely pain-free during this time.

Additionally, 35% found relief from their most bothersome symptoms within two hours, and 42% continued to experience pain relief between two and 48 hours after the first dose.

Remarkably, 86% of participants required no other pain relief within the first 24 hours.

Migraine Prevention Medication: Another study revealed that rimegepant resulted in an average decrease of 4.3 monthly migraine days (MMDs), which translates to a 50% reduction in the frequency of migraines.

Furthermore, clinical studies found that Vydura significantly reduced sickness symptoms and light sensitivity associated with migraines.

After treatment, 36% of those taking Vydura were free of these symptoms within two hours, compared to 27% of those taking a placebo.

These results underscore Vydura's effectiveness in alleviating migraines and enhancing the quality of life for individuals dealing with this condition.

How long does Vydura (Rimegepant) take to work?

Research indicates that Vydura effectively halts a migraine within a span of 2 hours.
