What is a Fingertip Pulse Oximeter?
Fingertip Pulse Oximeters are used to measure the oxygen level in the blood (SpO2). The conveniently portable device shines a light into your finger, and by observing the amount of light absorbed can accurately calculate levels of oxygen in the blood. Whilst the device cannot diagnose Covid-19, many patients admitted to hospital with a Covid-19 diagnosis have low oxygen levels, so a low reading may be an early indicator. As well as blood oxygen levels, the devices can accurately measure your pulse rate and your pulse strength, with your readings displayed on a screen on the device in real time.

- Easily find out your pulse rate (BPM) and pulse strength.
- The lightweight, portable design is perfect for use on the go.

How do I use the Haftek Fingertip Pulse Oximeter?
To use the device, simply place your index or middle finger on the device reader, with your finger nail facing upwards towards the direction of the screen. Press the power button on the top of the device, and wait approximately 30 seconds. You should immediately see the screen light up, and your readings will start to display after about 10 seconds, however for an accurate reading you should keep the device on for 30 seconds in total. If the reading is fluctuating, keep wearing the device until the reading stabilises.
On the left side of the screen will be your blood oxygen level measurement. Once the reading has stabilised, record the highest reading that has remained on screen for at least 5 seconds. It is advised that you record your blood oxygen level 3 times per day. On the right hand side of the screen is your pulse rate reading. The PI% reading (the small reading in the center of the display) is your Perfusion Index, which refers to the strength of your pulse. It ranges between 0.02% and 20%, and the pulse rate reading will be more accurate the greater your pulse strength.
For accurate results, ensure you have removed any nail varnish and that your hand is not cold before using the device.
You should refer to the included users’ manual for full instructions.
What are healthy blood oxygen measurements?
Normal levels of oxygen in the blood range from 95% to 100%.
If your reading is between 93% and 94% we advise you to call your GP or 111 for expert advice, and if the reading is showing lower than 92% blood oxygen level you should seek immediate medical help and go to A&E.
If you have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) then your readings are likely to be slightly lower, so you should seek immediate medical attention if your reading is below 88%.
