OneVit Magnesium works due to the effects of magnesium citrate on muscle contractions, bone density and cellular energy:

  • Muscle contractions - Magnesium citrate supports the timely release of calcium, which promotes muscle contraction, and the subsequent reuptake of calcium, which facilitates muscle relaxation. This balance helps minimise the risk of cramps and spasms. In addition, magnesium citrate is an ‘osmotic laxative’, which means it draws water into the intestines and stools. This mechanism results in softer stools and facilitates muscle contractions in the digestive system, improving bowel movements.
  • Bone density - Magnesium citrate provides magnesium ions to a type of cell known as ‘osteoblasts’ so they can produce osteocalcin, a protein that binds calcium to the bone matrix, enhancing bone mineralisation and density.
  • Cellular energy - Cells derive their energy from a compound known as ‘adenosine triphosphate’ (ATP).
