What is Calpol SixPlus Suspension?
Calpol SixPlus Suspension is an oral medicine for children ages six and above. It contains the active ingredient paracetamol, and comes in a strawberry-flavoured liquid suspension for ease of use.
What is Calpol SixPlus Suspension used for?
The medicine is used to alleviate fever, pain and typical symptoms of sickness in children and teenagers. Conditions for which Calpol would be a suitable treatment include:
- Cold or Influenza
- Headache
- Toothache
- Earache
- Post-immunisation fever
- Sore throat
- Other aches and pains
How does Calpol SixPlus Suspension work?
The active ingredient in Calpol SixPlus is paracetamol, which adults commonly use to treat typical symptoms of illness, such as pain and fever. Calpol contains less paracetamol in a flavoured suspension, making it suitable and easier for children to take.
How long does Calpol SixPlus Suspension take to work?
Your child should start feeling better around 15 minutes after taking the medicine.
Who can’t use Calpol SixPlus Suspension?
Calpol SixPlus is suitable for children aged six years and above, and teens and adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets. Calpol SixPlus should not be used if the person taking the treatment is allergic to paracetamol or any of the other ingredients in the treatment. In addition, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Calpol SixPlus if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding.
How do I use Calpol SixPlus Suspension?
The appropriate amount of Calpol SixPlus to use depends on the age of the person taking it. The easy dose syringe included with the medicine should be used to measure the dose. Refer to the guide below to work out how much is suitable for you or your child:
- 6-8 years - 5mL up to four times a day
- 8-10 years - 7.5mL up to four times a day
- 10-12 years - 10mL up to four times a day
- 12-16 years - 10-15mL up to four times a day
- 16+ years - 10-20mL up to four times a day
Leave four hours between doses, and do not give more than four doses in any 24 hour period. Do not give your child this medicine for more than three days without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.
How should Calpol SixPlus Suspension be stored?
The bottle should be stored in a cool, dry place below 25°C. It should also be kept in the outer carton when not in use.
